Important Advocacy Update for NC SLPs

There is active discussion around shifting CPT Code 92507 from an event-based model to a timed-code structure. This change could significantly impact how speech-language services are reimbursed across North Carolina.

NCSHLA is launching a statewide cost-finding initiative to determine the true cost of delivering services and to support strong, data-driven advocacy moving forward.

Participation from SLPs across settings is critical. Without real data, we risk decisions being made that do not reflect the realities of our work.

Here’s how you can take action:

Join the mailing list by April 30-
Be the first to receive the survey and ensure your voice is included
https://forms.gle/hfhEkzSgJtMkYB3A6

Support the initiative-
Help fund the analysis needed to advocate effectively
https://www.ncshla.org/Donate
(please include “Advocacy 2026 Private Practice” in the comments)

Watch the PAC meeting-
Learn more about what’s being discussed and what could change

All data will be collected securely by an external firm, with results reported only in aggregate.

This is a key moment for our profession in North Carolina. Please consider participating and sharing with other SLPs.

FROM ASHA's Director of Medicaid Caroline Bergner:

This morning an email went out to all ASHA members who took action to protect Medicaid during the development of the One Big Beautiful Bill. It included a link to new Take Action where we've already had more than 750 actions taken. WOW!

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association | Protect Medicaid Access: Stop Cuts and Barriers to Care

Here is an ASHA newspiece explaining everything that is going on at the federal level: Join ASHA's Fight to Stop Medicaid Cuts (Again)

The US Senate's version of the Reconciliation bill was posted today at 11am. It contains no cuts to Medicaid. However, the House is where we expect that things could get dicey and certain offices will see an opportunity to add in more cuts as pay fors for the Department of Homeland Security (ICE, CBP) budget they have proposed on the Senate side.

Here is our current Medicaid advocacy webpage which explains all of ASHA's work in this realm (I sent it last week, but just a quick reminder): Medicaid Cuts and Coverage Changes

Thank you for all you can do to elevate this work in your own networks. Please feel free to share the reimbursement@asha.org email with folks who might have questions.
