State Clinical Achievement Award

In conjunction with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHF), the North Carolina Speech, Hearing and Language Association annually selects a member to receive an award for recent (within the last three years) contributions to the advancement of clinical practice in speech/language pathology and audiology. The member chosen will receive a plaque from NCSHLA and a certificate from the ASHF. The North Carolina Clinical Achievement Award winner then becomes the state's nominee for the Louis DiCarlo award presented by ASHF at the ASHA convention.


Nominating Criteria

Nominees must be NCSHLA Active or Life members in good standing. They are not limited by type of clinical achievement or activity. Typical examples of qualifying activities include:

  • achievement with a single client or group of clients
  • clinical services programming
  • program development
  • achievement in a government agency or a state or local organization
  • clinical teaching, research, or administration.

Nominators must be Active or Life members of the Association. Nominations must include the following information:

  1. The Nomination Form on the back of this page, including information on both the nominee and the nominator.
  2. A document listing reasons why this member is being nominated, including:
    1. Identification and description of the outstanding clinical achievement, including information on when and where the specific achievement(s) took place.
    2. Description of the significance of the achievement.
    3. Explanation of how the nominee's actions have advanced knowledge in clinical practice.
    4. Explanation of the nominee's role in the achievement.
