Unintelligible Children: Differential Diagnosis and Treatment

Participants will learn evidence based treatment approaches appropriate for targeting intelligible speech in phonological delay and disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, and dysarthria. Using the Speech Disorders Classification System, they will accurately differentiate the underlying impairments.  Participants will be able to 1) List essential diagnostic markers for phonological disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, and dysarthria, 2) explain evidence based treatment approaches appropriate for targeting intelligible speech, and 3) describe universal principles for targeting speech sound disorders in bilingual children.  Intermediate information level.

Lisa Domby is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has taught courses and workshops in pediatric speech sound disorders for more than 20 years. Her focus is on simplifying accurate differential diagnosis and selecting appropriate treatment approaches to improve overall intelligibility.
