2011-12 Call for Nominations

The NCSHLA Nominations Committee invites and encourages you to nominate candidates for NCSHLA offices. Listed below are the offices to be filled for 2011-12, with a brief description of each. In order to have your nomination considered for the 2011 ballot, Complete the online submission form.




Nominations/Position Descriptions

The following offices and positions will be filled in the upcoming elections.

PRESIDENT-ELECT: One-year term, with a three-year commitment to the Board of Directors; serves as a member of the Board, presides in the absence of the President, and becomes President for 2008-2009; represents NCSHLA at the spring or fall meeting of the Council of State Association Presidents (CSAP).

BOARD MEMBERS-AT-LARGE (3): Two-year terms; serve as members of the Board of Directors to conduct its business matters, receive and act on committee reports, and exercise general management of the Association.

CHAIR OF NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE: One-year term; chairs the committee that prepares a slate of nominees for Association offices, conducts the election of officers at the Annual Business Meeting, and prepares a list of qualified NCSHLA members for submittal to the Governor's Office as potential appointees to boards and commissions.

VICE-CHAIR OF CONVENTION COMMITTEE: One-year term, with a two-year commitment to the committee; serves on the committee responsible for all aspects of the annual convention; becomes chair for the 2009 convention.

CHAIR OF MEMBERSHIP AND RECOGNITION COMMITTEE: Two-year term; chairs the committee responsible for the recruitment, retention, and enhancement of the Association's membership and recommends and presents recipients of Association awards at the convention

SLP VICE-CHAIR OF FALL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE: One-year term, with a two-year commitment to the committee; serves on the committee responsible for all aspects of the annual Fall Hearing and Speech Conference; becomes SLP co-chair for the 2010 conference.

EDITORS OF COMMUNIQUE (2): Two-year terms; one speech/language pathologist AND one audiologist oversee the content of the quarterly newsletter-including soliciting/writing articles and member profiles, proofreading each issue produced in the NCSHLA Office for publication, and recommending advertising policies and rates to the Board of Directors.



The Nominations Process

As specified in the NCSHLA Constitution and By-Laws, the Nominations Committee will prepare a slate of at least two nominees for each office described above, to be submitted in writing to the Board of Directors for approval at least 90 days before the Annual Business meeting and to the membership at least 30 days before the Annual Business Meeting. Candidate eligibility and willingness to serve will be confirmed, and the final list of candidates will be presented to the Board at the annual convention and to the membership at the time of the election.


Absentee Balloting

Absentee ballots will be available to those who are unable to attend the Annual Business Meeting and who request such a ballot in writing. Specific information regarding absentee balloting procedures is published annually in the Spring issue of Communiqué.


NCSHLA Campaigning Policy

In an effort to provide equal opportunity and exposure to all candidates and to provide the membership with sufficient information to cast an informed vote, the Board of Directors has adopted a policy regarding campaigning. In addition to biographical information, candidates will be asked to provide answers to questions posed by the Nominations Committee. Their responses and biographical summaries will be printed in the Spring issue of Communiqué. Additional copies will be available at the convention. Candidates for President-Elect will make a brief statement to the membership during the President’s Forum on the day before the election. OTHER OVERT CAMPAIGNING--I.E., POSTERS, PARTIES, DISTRIBUTION OF LETTERS, ETC.--IS NOT PERMITTED.
